GQ Street Style

I saw a neat photo in GQ’s Street Style section which I wanted to share.

GQ Street Style

This otherwise innocuous photo, reflects the wearer’s keen attention to detail.

What pulls this outfit together?

One can’t help but notice that the shirt is trimmed at the collar and on the underside of the cuffs with a red fabric.

Notice the lapel buttonhole.  The blazer has had its lapel buttonhole finished with a red thread.

The wearer has chosen a patterned, red square to pull this casual outfit together.

He also shows off his surgeon sleeves or working buttonholes on his jacket by strategically leaving one or two of his sleeve buttonholes open.

Finally, notice the resurrection of a beefy watch!  My jeweler friends will be very happy!

WHERE TO FIND THESE ITEMS:

When I visited the NYC Fashion shows last season (featuring what will be available in stores this coming Spring), the more popular items were beautifully trimmed and detailed shirts along with sport coats or blazers featuring subtle detailing like a contrasting lapel buttonhole color.  Working sleeve jacket buttonholes were also popular, with one of the buttonholes invariably having been finished in a bold, contrasting color.   (If your sleeve length is longer or shorter, you might find the working buttonhole feature problematic in off-the-rack blazers because altering such sleeves is limited.  Ask your sales professional about altering your sleeve if it has working buttonholes and you feel it needs to be shortened or lengthened.)

Shirts were a little shorter to allow for wearing outside of one’s jeans on weekends.  Collar and/or cuff buttonholes were oftentimes stitched in a color which brought out a stripe or pattern from the shirt.  Contrasting trims were shown at the collar, cuff, and front plackets.

You should see these items in your favorite specialty men’s store this Spring.  If you use a custom clothier, ask him/her about finishing your next sport coat or casual shirt with such features.  If you shop with Christopher’s, here is the link for your next appointment:   Link to Christopher’s Custom Appointment Log

Hope this photo gets you thinking about your Spring wardrobe updates!  I know we haven’t even had snow…except for that October freak storm…but…Spring is just around the corner when it comes to your clothing needs.
